This website ("Pokédex", "we", "us", or "our") is an unofficial, non-commercial fan project, free for everyone to use. It is operated by an individual developer, carries no advertising, and is not affiliated with Nintendo Co., Ltd., Game Freak Inc., Creatures Inc., or The Pokémon Company.

2. Data We Do Not Collect

We do not operate user accounts, registration forms, contact forms, comment systems, or payment processing. We do not collect, store, or process any personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name, email address, location, or IP address on our servers.

3. Local Storage (Your Preferences)

To remember choices you make while browsing, we save a few small values to your browser's localStorage:

• Theme (pokedex-theme) — whether you prefer dark or light mode.
• Shiny sprites (dexShiny) — whether the Pokédex grid shows normal or shiny artwork.
• Filter panels (dex-accordion) — which sidebar filter sections you left open or closed.
• Cookie choice (cookie_consent) — your accept/decline decision, so we don't ask again on every visit.

All of these values:

• Reside exclusively on your device.
• Are never transmitted to our servers or any third party.
• Contain no personally identifiable information.
• Can be cleared at any time via your browser settings.

These functional preferences do not require consent because they only remember settings you chose and are not used for tracking or advertising.

4. Cookies & Consent

When you first visit, we show a consent banner. Until you choose, and if you decline, we instruct Google Analytics to run in a restricted mode that does not store cookies (a technique known as Google Consent Mode v2). If you accept, the following cookie may be set:

• Analytics cookies (e.g. _ga, _ga_*) — set by Google Analytics to distinguish visitors and measure usage. Typically expire within 2 years.

We do not display advertising and set no advertising cookies of any kind.

You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, which will make the consent banner appear again. You can also manage or block cookies through your browser settings.

5. Third-Party Services

We use a small number of third-party services to deliver this website. Each has its own privacy practices, which we describe below.

Google Analytics

Subject to your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type). We enable IP anonymization. This data is processed by Google in accordance with their Privacy Policy. You can also opt out via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Fonts (Self-Hosted)

Our typography (Syne, DM Sans, and DM Mono) is self-hosted — the font files are served directly from our own servers. Your browser never contacts Google Fonts or any other third-party font service, so no request, IP address, or browser information is sent to a third party for fonts.

Pokémon Data & Images

The Pokémon data shown on this site was sourced from PokéAPI, a free and open community project, and is stored in our own database. When you browse, the data is served from our servers — your browser never contacts PokéAPI, and your IP address or browser information is never sent to it.

Sprites and artwork are likewise served from our own servers. In the rare case a local copy is unavailable, an individual image may be loaded from a public sprite repository (GitHub); that single request would then be made directly by your browser under GitHub's own privacy practices.

6. Server Logs

Like most web servers, our hosting provider may maintain standard access logs that record IP addresses, request timestamps, and the pages requested. These logs are used solely for operational purposes (diagnosing errors, preventing abuse) and are not used for tracking, profiling, or marketing. Logs are typically retained for a short period as determined by the hosting provider.

7. Children's Privacy

This site is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

8. Your Rights (GDPR / EU Residents)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have certain rights regarding your personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Because we do not collect personal data, there is typically no data to access, correct, or delete. However, if you have any concerns, you may contact us at info@poke-dex.com and we will respond within 30 days.

9. Data Security

Since we do not collect or store personal data, the risk of a data breach affecting you through this site is minimal. We take reasonable technical measures to secure our server infrastructure against unauthorized access.

10. External Links

This site contains links to external websites such as Nintendo.com, GameFreak.co.jp, and PokéAPI.co. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or data handling of those sites. We encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing them with personal information.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" at the top of this page. Your continued use of this site after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
